How to make your very own beaded tassel garland!
Here at Cotton Clara we love any excuse to make something lovely for the house! So why not have a go at making our beaded tassel garland! A homemade tassel garland makes a great Autumn decoration that can be hung on the fireplace or a thoughtful gift for a friend! Here’s what you’ll need to make one for yourself...
- Yarn or string for threading the beads on to
- Wooden beads
- Tassels and/or pom poms
- A large needle (but don’t worry if you don’t have one)
- Scissors
Start by choosing some yarn or wool to thread your wooden beads on to. We chose a mustard yellow wool for the tassel garland because it looks great with the Autumn tones of the tassels.
Thread the wool through a needle if you have one (this makes it a little easier and quicker to thread the beads on to but don’t worry if you don’t have one you’ll still be able to thread the beads.)
Think about the pattern and size of the garland you’d like to make, we kept it simple with 5 large beads and a tassel and repeated this until we had the desired length for the fireplace. You want to make sure you’ve got enough swag so that it hangs nicely!
To make the exact same tassel garland that we made, start by tying a knot in the end of your yarn to stop the beads from falling off. Then you can start threading your beads on; 5 large ones and then an orange tassel. 5 more large beads and then a pink tassel, 5 beads and a mustard tassel and finally 5 beads and a lilac tassel. Then start again with 5 beads and an orange tassel and continue with the same order of coloured tassels as before until you’re at your desired length. Always make sure you end with 5 beads so the garland looks nice and even.
Finally, don’t forget to tie a knot in the end so that the beads can’t fall off. your garland is all finished and ready to be hung on your fireplace!
We think the garlands look best when you’ve got a couple of different garlands paired together, try using different sized beads, pom poms instead of tassels or even have ago at painting the beads!
Finish off your Autumn fireplace with some pumpkins, dried leaves from the garden, pinecones and candles!
