Craft Trend Report 2025 - Or the 13 crafts I want to try this year....

I love a good trend report. I eat them up! You don't ever really get a good 'craft trend report' or if you do it's passed me by and if you know where this exists let me know! So here is my 2025 Craft Trend Report, also known as a list of the crafts I want to try this year! P.s. follow me on Pinterest to see all the things I'm currently obsessing over.

In no particular order.....

Flower Pressing

I dabbled in this a while ago and just keep seeing beautiful art created using flowers. I love the idea of this craft going from taking that lovely walk, or noticing a flower on your commute to work, through to pressing the flower and then finishing it off in a creative way. It's slow and mindful and did you know you can even press vegetables?! Mind. Blown.

Stained Glass

I'm not normally a fan of glass work, but i've recently spotted some very cute projects that have peaked my interest. This disco ball, I don't want to love it but I do! Imagine this hanging in your window and the light coming through it? Beautiful. I'm not sure how practical it is to learn stained glass at home but maybe there's a halfway point of using resin? I have such fond memories of a kit I had as a child that was a parrot shape that you filled with little beads and then put it in the oven and it melted and turned into a lovely window hanging.

Sashiko

I have long admired this Japanese method of embroidery. At its heart so practical and useful yet so beautiful. We did a Hoop Club project way back at the start inspired by Sashiko stitching and I'm itching to make some table mats or even a table cloth using this technique.

Quilting

Combine my love of Americana and fabric/fibre and you get quilting. I've wanted to learn how to quilt for forever. A little wall hanging project could be within my reach I reckon?

Air Dry Clay

I'm not a fan of some of the big chunky makes I see with Air Dry Clay but I feel like there's alot of potential to play around with this and make some beautiful little wall charms, or trinket dishes. I think the key is in the painted finish and keeping it delicate with this one but I'm excited to try.

Quilling

Here me out on this one, I think when I think of quilling I just instantly think ugh NAFF! But recently I've been tempted to have a go and see what you can produce. I love all paper crafts because of how non-messy they are and how generally quite easy they are to get into.

Punch Needle

After our Punch Needle Hoop Club box last year I feel like I've learnt so much about Punch Needle but there is so much more to learn and to punch. I'll definitely be exploring more punch needle projects this year!

French Knitting

I want to explore more of the uses for the 'i-cord' that you create when you are french knitting as it's such a relaxing thing to do but I haven't seen enough cool projects to use the cord with yet.

Beading

From coasters to little charms for necklaces I really want to try creating some beaded somethings! You can get a little loom to weave beads onto or just do it by hand but I'm fascinated by the images and patterns you can build using these tiny blocks of colour. It's really similar to how you build a cross stitch patter which is why i'm drawn to it I think.

Crewel Embroidery

You all loved the Hoop Club we did which was a Crewel Work project. Crewel work uses wool rather than cotton threads so it's much more raised and textured and often stitched on colourful twill or linen fabrics. The examples I see the most are from the 1970s , you don't often see examples of this kind of embroidery any more, unless it's a very traditional style associate with the Jacobean era. I feel like I want to design some modern Crewel work pieces.

Hama Beads

You'll have seen that I LOVE a hama bead project and we stock a lovely selection of colours in our shop. I am keen to make a tissue holder! (Again note my love of a 1970s craft)

Block Printing

I've seen this kind of repeat printing that you can produce with one small block design, even carving out of erasers. Or maybe I want to try lino printing? Just love the repeat patterns that you can create from one little carving.

Art Journalling

I dream of having a journal that I fill with thoughts and words and doodles and scraps of things I have saved. Scrapbooking essentially I guess but with more of a focus on thoughts and feelings and using it as a personal growth tool!
