Punch Needle Project Idea - Free PDF Download

I used our Punch Needle Starter Bundle to make this cute patch that I then stitched onto a cushion! This technique is great if you have a cushion you want to embellish but you're not sure if the fabric is suitable to be punch needled.

I did try punching directly onto a cushion I bought and it did work but it was tricky and I would have been better using this patch technique on reflection.

I found this mustard cushion for £3 from Dunelm and thought it would look much better with a punch needled butter patch! Using the wool & fabric from the starter bundle I transferred my design, then punched it using the needle included.

Once I'd filled it with colour, I cut a 2cm border and then glued this down with the fabric glue (also included in the bundle!) When it was dry I edged the 'patch' with the black wool to make it look a bit neater, then I just sewed it onto the cushion with black thread.

This is a great technique for adding punch needle details to jackets or bags or even sweatshirts (not sure how it would wash but I'll test it out for you!)

If you want to have a go, I've made a PDF of the butter design and you can download it for free here!

If you want to have a go, all the materials you need (apart from the cushion) are in our Punch Needle Starter Bundle here.
