Easter Paper Egg Craft Tutorial

Easter trees are definitely a thing these days, and I for one love them! Even the simplest can look so stylish, indoors or outside. You can of course buy a tree along with the decorations but here at Cotton Clara we jump at any opportunity to get creative and do some crafting, so when you’re next out walking look out for any fallen branches that can be left natural or painted your colour of choice and follow our simple step by step guide to make pretty paper easter eggs to hang off them.

What you’ll need:

  • Some scissors
  • Cotton thread
  • A variety of different patterned papers (could be newspaper or magazines if you don’t have anything else)
  • Glue stick
  • Pencil

1. Make a template first. Draw an oval shape - find something to draw around as a guide if you’re not confident about your freehand skills. Top tip! It will need to be fairly symmetrical so once you have your oval shape, fold it in half and trim the edges so it’s the same on both sides.

2. Now take your patterned paper and draw around your oval template six times. Once drawn cut the egg shapes out.

3. Fold the egg shapes in half (the side that will be displayed should be on the inside of the fold) from top to bottom.

4. Now start by glueing on one half of the outside of the egg shape and stick the second egg shape (outer side) onto the first and keep going like this, sticking half of the egg shapes on to each other. When you get to the last shape you’ll need to glue both sides, to complete the egg and stick it together.

5. Once the glue has dried, take a needle and a thread it with a length of cotton about 30 cm in length. Push your needle through the top of the egg and tie your thread in a knot so you can hang your egg.

Repeat with different patterned papers and different sized templates to create a wonderful Easter display, with the added satisfaction of it all being your own work.

Happy Easter!
