"Punch needle" is a unique embroidery variation, suitable for loose woven fabrics, like canvas or cotton. It uses a technique which pushes the thread or yarn through the fabric whilst remaining on the surface resulting in a highly textured, 3 dimensional design, consisting of variety of loops.
This is an extremely popular technique which has been historically associated with rug making due to wonderfully textured nature of the design which is created. It is a versatile embroidery technique which can produce both modern and authentic effects dependent on the fabric, thickness of yarn, colours.
